The Order: 1886 Exclusive Gameplay Trailer - playstation4.co.uk - February 26, 2014

The Order: 1886 Exclusive Gameplay Trailer

The Order: 1886 Exclusive Gameplay Trailer

In the trailer you can see Galahad and Percival in action, though the content in the trailer is what we have already seen of the game, just having it in video form makes the game look even more spectacular. Though the use of the same content is worrying, considering this game is slated for the end of 2014 release we still have yet to see anything from the game. This could be a clever way of hyping the game and keeping all the spoilers out of the public eye. But this has been done before in recent years by some big games and almost all of them have failed to make an impact on players.
Following the release of the trailer Sony posted about the things player need to know about The Order: 1886, the first explain on the melee combat which is vey different to other shooters. As we know from the screenshots and the trailers gunplay will be a key component of The Order 1886′s gameplay, but close combat melee encounters are also going to be integral to the experience. Ready at Dawn is taking a fresh approach here, incorporating split decision paths fights can play out in a number of ways, in the trailer Galahad goes for the knife, but it’s not the only way to respond to the situation.
“For melee, we’re leveraging some of the things we’ve learned in the peat, even from the platformer days. We want to supplement ranged combat with something the players don’t expect. You’ll see more melee modes that will give you some complex  options,” Creative Director Ru Weerasuriya hinted.
At its core The Order: 1886 is a third person action game, complete with cover shooting mechanics. While you might think you’ve seen these before, Ready at Dawn is putting it’s own twist on the convention.
“Yes there is cover as you might have seen in other games, but we’ve added traversal modes,” says Ru “You’ll go seamlessly from ‘full cover’ into ‘soft cover’ as you move away from the object. Imagine you’re in cover, you’re shooting at something and you want to pop out. You don’t just your head up, right? You’d stay low. So we’ve tried to build a bit more reality into the cover system.”
Alongside an arsenal of weaponry that offers huge customisation of combat options, you’ll also have a number of gadget at your disposal. In the trailer, Galahad is surveying Neo-Victorian London with a monocular in search of a fire fight.
“The Monocular was built for multipurpose use,” Ru explained. “We haven’t talked about all the different modes of gameplay in which it will be implemented, but what we have showed in the latest demo is it being used as a looking glass. It can also be use to send a Morse code to flash your signal to the airship above to give your location.”
The Order: 1886 is shaping up to be the spearhead for Sony and the Playstation 4 and if they can pull off everything they are saying then it will be one to watch out for, keep checking back for everything on The Order: 1886 as it drops.

Evolve: Hunting the Beast - playstation4.co.uk - February 13, 2014

Hunting the beast in Evolve sounds easy enough, pitting four players against the one. It's an age old argument that numbers always prevail, however, Turtle Rock Studios the team behind Left 4 Dead are changing this.
Scouring through the thick of the jungle, four hunters muttering warnings and checking sound spikes for activity are searching for the beast. The beast has been feeding, a burst cocoon betrays the monsters recent attempt of a stealthy evolution. For most games this would be a massive opening cutscene, but for Evolve this is just a tiny part of the gameplay.
Evolve is founded on thrilling boss fights. Where most games would want you to get to the boss and have you upgrade having found out that particular bosses weaknesses, Evolve will make you stretch the limits of your gameplay to even make a scratch in the thick husk of the gargantuan monster.
As a hunters players pick between four different classes. Each class is vital to success, the idea being that teamwork is key to survival. To that end though, no match can roll in with two or three members, a team has to comprise one of each class.
Players taking on the role of the hunters play in a first person perspective. The four teammates must work together to track down the monster and ideally take it down before it evolves, however at the same time they must always be aware of the wildlife of the planet as there is always more unsavoury wildlife wanting to join in with taking out the hunters.
Evolution is key to winning as the monster which is played in a third person perspective. From what has been shown so far only the Goliath monster has been unveiled but there are more types of monster which should keep the gameplay fresh. The Goliath bears it's name for exactly the right reasons as the intimidating brute starts off with two player selected abilities, and gains another after each level of evolution. Goliath is relatively vulnerable when the match begins, but when maxed out and evolution level three he is a terrifying threat to the hunters. For monster players careful navigation and combat tactics are required.
Evolve blends together a number of different multiplayer elements to make something very unique. It has both cooperative and competitive gameplay, it has MOBA like character management and ability growth and has insane action set pieces. This unusual cocktail of play types has a refreshing taste that promises to bring life and new strategy to multiplayer shooters.
Evolve is scheduled to launch later this year on PS4, for everything else on Evolve keep checking back for our updates on the game. But for now below is the debut gameplay trailer.

Bungie's Destiny won't feature animal mounts - playstation4.co.uk - February 4, 2014

Destiny, the all new ambitious space shooter from Halo creator Bungie, will not feature animal mounts, the studio revealed.
"We considered animal mounts, but the weight-load of the Titan’s heavy armour kept breaking their backs, and we knew that PETA would go absolutely berserk," Bungie said as part of the weekly updates.

Destiny won't have animal mounts.

It's worth pointing out the PETA (The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) have previously spoken out about the way animals are treated in video games before by creating parodies of titles like Mario and Pokemon.
Animal mounts aren't completely foreign to Sci-fi  experiences, some would say they even help with the lore of the different universes, Star Wars fans will undoubtedly remember the Tauntaun in Empire Strikes Back, this helped give a sense of life to the planet Hoth and gave that extra Sci-fi experience to Star Wars. Though Bungie has always stayed clear of them. Like Halo before it, Destiny will allow players to find a host of standard vehicles to ride and attack enemies from.
Also in the weekly update Bungie stated like many other studios, Destiny will be getting second screen functionality. The Companion as Bungie calls it will be available through the Bungie mobile app which is available now on iOS and Andriod.
Destiny won't have animal mounts
Bungie did not comment on what features will be available to players through The Companion but no doubt like many other titles it will have maps and different information about the area in which the player is in, something like the Assassins Creed: Black Flag app with it's interactive maps. Companion apps are becoming more commonplace and typically afford users a variety of features like inventory management or the ability to learn about the virtual world around them.
Destiny launches for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on September 9. A beta for the game will be available this summer first to Playstation platforms. Preordering the game will guarantee you access to the pre-release trial period. Be sure to check back for more coverage of Destiny over the coming months but until then check out the gameplay trailer below.

PS Plus Subscriptions Triple Following PS4 Launch - playstation4.co.uk - January 31, 2014

Following the Launch of the PS4, Playstation Plus subscriptions tripled Sony has announced.
The news came from Sony UK Boss Fergal Gara, who made the reveal at the PS Vita Slim event yesterday. ps_vita_slim announcement
While Gara pointed out the needing PS Plus was needed in order to play PS4 games online no doubt played a part in this, he also expressed his confidence that the value offered by the service was the driving force behind the increased numbers.
These numbers can at no great shock, as the value that is offered is unrivalled, the free games given each month is a huge incentive to subscribe to the service. If you are an owner of the whole Playstation eco system paying only a mere £40 a year for 60 games is a bargain.
Elsewhere in the briefing, Gara also stated that currently there are 1.5 Ps4 consoles in the UK to every Xbox One. This is very good news for Sony as they seem to have the upper hand at this point and it looks like as long as they keep targeting the players directly and keep the focus on game they will keep this lead over Microsoft.
Sony has still to pull its trump card for PS Plus owners with them still stating when Driveclub is released PS Plus subscribers will get the game for free, but even with it being absent from the list at launch and no clear date on when it will be available Sony is still getting numbers higher at which the first might have thought.
If you haven't picked up Playstation Plus yet check out this months free games, and judge for yourself the amazing value. The big highlight this month is the terrifying Outlast coming 5th February to PS4 owners, its worth noting that Bioshock Infinite and Metro: Last Light on PS3 where two of the biggest games last year and should not be missed.

Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor Nemesis System - playstation4.co.uk - January 25 2014

Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor Nemesis System:

You don't have to play a lot of games to find expendable enemies, in fact the first game you think of will have them in, these cannon fodder serve to delay you, distract you and to absorb whatever you throw at them, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor is trying to change this method up by promoting the pawns.
The player takes on the role of Talion, one of the rangers of Gondor tasked with standing guard at the Black Gate of Mordor, set after the events of The Hobbit when Sauron and his black captains return to Mordor and kill everyone there. Talion is kept alive by a mysterious spirit which allows him to switch into a wraith being at will, much like Bilbo and Frodo could with the ring. Such a being is new to the world of Tolkien and such seems custom tailored to be a lead protagonist.
Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor Nemesis System
Mordor is a huge open world, think Arkham City crossed with Dishonoured, and so will have many different enemies, but as well all know Mordor is full of Orcs, so how has Monolith made the game to keep it fresh. With the new Nemesis System they look to change up how even the smallest of enemies can quickly change the outcome of the story.
During your adventure some enemies may flee, survive or even kill you, when this happens the Nemesis system kicks in, figures out what has happened and changes what that enemy is, the can rise through the ranks of the orcs and hold one serious grudge against you. Nemeses gain names, titles, new followers and maybe even new physical appearances deepening on how the outcome of the fight went the last time you met them.
Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor Nemesis System
Both the navigation of Mordor and the battle take advantage of Talions abilities, normal combat and climbing are done in the human form, while as a wraith you can fire your bow, distract enemies with sounds or even teleport instantly to an enemy. Teleporting is a great way to take down an archer atop a building where you can then plan your assassination from a vantage point, with these elements it's where the Batman Arkham games and Dishonoured  styles show off, the teleporting is very reminiscent of the abilities in Dishonoured where as the normal combat is like something you would find in the Arkham games. And like both games traversing the environment and planning your attacks is much better than sprinting in to a pack of orcs with a death wish.
Talion is only one person, yet with his wraith abilities he is able to dominate and spread influence across Mordor's various lands, when he catches enemies he can use his abilities to turn them into his minion by turning all ethereal and scary he can take control of their minds and give them tasks, whether it be to go on a recon mission to spy on an orc leader or to attempt an assassination to give Talion that moment of surprise. Whats really interesting about the options is that it caters to all different play styles, you could just kill the captive and not have to deal with them again or send him on his way and never see him again.Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor Nemesis System
Winning a fight though isn't always about positioning gathering intelligence can offer a huge advantage, some targets are specifically afraid of fire or troll, others are immune to ranged attacks or have several bodyguards, this new style of play give a strong incentive to the Nemesis System, do your research and save yourself from going into a battle tactically blind. Whats really interesting about this fights is that they can be done at any time so they wont bog you down between doing story quest.
Shadow's of Mordor is looking more and more impressive each time i see it, and now with this new system for tackling the same type of enemies should mix things up a bit, its still a wonder about Talion's origins and whether the story will be satisfactroy but as the game is still early in development I'm sure we will get some answers as time goes on.
For more on Middle Earth: Shadow's of Mordor keep checking back but for now here is the gameplay trailer showing off the Nemesis System.

Outlast Preview - playstation4.co.uk - January 23 2014

Outlast Preview:

Outlast Preview
Outlast, the first person survival horror from developer Red Barrels is coming to Playstation 4 on February 5th, but what can players expect when they pick the game up.
Plot
The story that revolves Outlast, takes up on following Miles Upshur, a freelance journalist who receives a tip off about Mount Massive Asylum, a psychiatric hospital owned and operated by the Murkoff corporation. Upon entering the asylum he finds the bodies of the staff strewn up and is warned to get out while he can before the inmates known as "The Varients" find him. The main antagonist of the game is an inmate by the name of Martin, who has taken it upon himself to be called Father Martin, he believes that he is a priest and thinks that Miles was sent to the asylum by god to be a witness to his cult and must stay within the grounds.
Outlast Horror Preview
Gameplay
The gameplay is what makes this horror game very unique and also genuinely terrifying, there is no combat except from a few scripted sequences is which Miles pushes enemies away which means the player must hide and run from everything, the only edge Miles has over the inmates is that he can vault and climb over objects and slide for quick escapes, all of which the inmates cannot do, in addition to these the player can survive encounters by hiding in lockers though some inmates will check so players have to be very cautious. The game is already very daunting and not easy get through without being caught but the developers also in the feature that the asylum is almost pitch black by which Miles can only navigate by using the night vision function on his video camera, this cannot be used while moving so the player has to think about when to use it as it gives the location of Miles away.
Outlast Dark
Outlast is shaping up to be one of the big games that is catching players eyes, with its exemplification of what it means to be a horror game and how it pulls off the cat and mouse act is very clever, be on the look out for when this launches on Playstation 4 and remember if you are a subscriber to Playstation Plus you can get the game for free, until then here is the launch trailer.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (Preview) - playstation4.co.uk - January 19 2014

The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt PS4 (Preview):

The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt PS4
You see that grotesque, three-eyed beast over there? Yeah, the one with the antlers big enough to impale a dozen men with a single head flick. The Witcher 3 is shaping up to be the go to RPG of this year and CD Projekt Red are looking to de throne Elder Scrolls as the king of the Western RPG's.
Slaying monsters is an essential component to any RPG but The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt looks to make each encounter feel fresh and momentous, instead of having you hack your way through hundreds of interchangeable orcs, the games designers have instead introduced a new monster hunting mechanic.
The game's sprawling open world, which the designers are saying is 20% bigger than Bathesda's Skyrim is filled with unique creatures, the games developers have made it clear that each monster battle which usually have a tendency to break the flow of the game in The Witcher 3, you can almost view each of them as exceptionally dangerous NPC's each possessing their own backstory and each have an influence on the games unfolding tale. Before charging into these confrontations players will have to do their homework, uncovering weaknesses and attack behaviour by consulting with townsfolk and other reference scattered around the world.
The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt PS4
The more i read on this game makes me more excited to finally get my hands on it, the way the world is shaping up is what more games should be designed and if what CD Projekt Red are saying about the game is true then this will be the RPG to beat after this year.
CD Projekt RED  claims that the game will redefine the genre, but haven't we traversed fantasy worlds and slain countless monsters before, so what will be so different that it will stand out about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Only time will tell as we move closer to release and get to know the game a lot more.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is scheduled for release later this year, in the meantime for everything about the game keep checking back  for more coverage.

Resogun (Review) - playstation4.co.uk - January 14 2014

Resogun PS4 Review

Resogun, the successor to Housemarque's Super Stardust is a perfect example of what the next gen console is all about, with it's simplistic design, vibrant colours and pick up and play controls, every Playstation gamer should try out this new Sidescrolling Shooter.
Since playing Resogun back in September 2013 at Eurogamer, I knew it was my most anticipated game for the PS4, I could not have imagined how right I was in first thinking that. The crisp 1080p graphics look amazing and the sound keeps within Housemarque's iconic electronica theme within its games.
Resogun PS4 Review
Resogun is a game that everyone can just pick up and play, depending on the difficulty it can be enjoyed by the most casual of gamers or even the most hardcore, players will see themselves competing with friends to get to the top of the leaderboards, with a choice of three different characters with different stats theres is always one that each player will lean towards.
Although the primary goal for each level is to defeat all enemies using an array of different techniques, Overdrive, Bombs and Boosting, there are humans that can be saved to boost the score and give bonus points to the players final score.
The problems with Resogun are only minor but may put some people off, it has a lack of modes which makes the game easily the shortest of the PS4 games, if playing on the lowest difficulty setting only takes 30 minutes to complete, this is a big drawback for certain gamers but for those wanted to max out the trophies and go for the platinum it takes a bit longer, my total play time after obtaining all trophies was about 10 hours which for an indie game with one mode isn't worst thing ever. Resogun PS4 Review
There is a coop mode in a which a friend can join and together you can compete to get the highest score in a session this adds more competitive sport about the game and keep players coming back to try and get those extra hundreds of points.
Housemarque has done something very special with Resogun, in creating a very addictive shooter though it lacks in substance of different modes it makes up for with is competitive nature and amazing soundtrack, going forward I can see them releasing a DLC package that will contain different modes just like Super Stardust did on PS3 but i think they should have thought about what they would be delivering straight out of the gates.
There is something about Resogun that it always seems to pull players back into it, even after completing the game I felt the need to go back and try and top a friends score or even just to mess about on the hardest difficulty to try and top my personal best. This addictive nature of the game is what drives it, and although very simple it is such a sophisticated game that isn't going to leave any players minds for the next few years and I can see it as the classic titles that the PS4 rocketed out of the games with.

Hope you enjoy our Resogun PS4 Review  please check out the other Reviews Here

The Last of Us (Review) - June 19 2013

19/06/2013

Okay so i've already missed the first day that i should have started on, apologies for that, but i lost touch with the outside world and found myself sucked into the post pandemic world of Naughty Dog's The Last of Us.

So where do i even start with this game, I've been playing through the single player and I've also dipped myself into the multiplayer of the game and i can not find a single flaw with what they have done with the creation of the game.

While writing this i am only 34% into the game, now I'm not sure if thats the progress through the story or if it takes into account the collectibles,
but its taken me three days of playing to get this far into it, each chapter plays through a whole city with one main objective .eg. get to the bridge in the horizon but as playing through each chapter more and more open up in terms of meeting new characters and certain changes to the pace which side track from the primary and send you off on another mission.

The main focal point Naughty Dog has put emphasis on is the atmospheric tension, while playing there is no ambient music, the only noise you get are from footsteps and items been knocked over, so when you go through a door and an infected jumps out it puts a lot of tension on you, as a result i've spent most of my time sneaking around every room scavenging for supplies while bricking it that at any moment i could have one of the critters jump out behind me.

21/06/2013

So i've now completed the game for the first time i can now try and reflect without spoiling anything what a truly amazing experience the game is, i would go as far as to say it has it moments to make it my top game of this generation, this is very closely tied with Mass Effect 2, but the way Naughty Dog has delivered The Last of Us is very spectacular, each cutscene and moment when not engaging in combat is a thoughtful string of conversation which pulls on the hearts of the players.

From what i can think there has never been a game that i have played that has poured so much emotion into a game like this, even though the game has one or two moments where you feel happy for the characters it is very quickly shadowed by how human the world is, there is nothing good that happens in the game, from the offset it is like a snowball rolling down a hill, bad moment after bad moment, and at time can make you feel taken aback, this does not happen very often in games, let alone in any other form of media, Naughty Dog has delivered something here that takes players off guard.

Anyone who doesn't play The Last of Us is really missing out on something that will go down in history with the Playstation 3 and with Naughty Dog as a developer, but i warn now, never play this game in your life, i know i'm contradicting myself, but it will destroy you every emotion you feel will crumble, i now don't know what to do with myself, i can bring myself to play it again or even touch any other game, so just be warned before you press start because once you do, there is no stopping what comes next.

My final verdict for this game is that it is something that every player needs to be a part of as its something very special, it feels very real which with games nowadays is very rare, the voice acting that Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson pull off is something out of this world, Troy's delivery in this game is his best yet he puts so much raw emotion into Joel that you feel so much for him as a character, and Ashley really brings everything about with her performance of Ellie, like she is holding Joel together, the pair sounds absolutely stunning together and as that pull the game together, i would score this game as 10/10 almost flawless in my eyes say for one or two minor hiccups but nothing that shakes the gaming experience.

Multiplayer

The Last of Us multiplayer of how Naughty Dog has seen fit to call it "Factions" feels very reminiscent to players who have played the Uncharted multiplayer, though the interface and the way it plays is where it stands out to be possibly the best online experience ever conceived, when first accessing it you are given a choice of which faction you want to play as, either the Hunters or the Fireflies neither have any special ability over the other this is just a representation of your online experience.

Once into the main body of Factions you are presented by a chart that shows the survivors you have how many are healthy, sick and hungry, while playing each multiplayer mode it is your job to take out the other team while at the same time looking for supplies to keep your clan alive through the season.

Now this is where i should mention how the season plays out, once you play your first match you are given a screen with which week you are on and what day, the main goal is to play through keeping your survivors healthy for the duration of the 12 weeks, each match you play is a day and after some matches if your performance is high you get more survivors to join your clan, thus making it harder to keep them alive as you need to up your game for the proceeding matches.

I have only played five or six matches so as of yet I'm only on Week 1 day 6 and the amount of resources i need is now increasing by quite a bit, so the difficulty jump is very high.

As far as it goes at the minute i cannot add more without spoiling so for now i will leave this as it is, i will update more tomorrow after i have played some more and explored some more of the mechanics, unless in the meantime i end up in a hole forgetting the outside world.
