Weekly Roundup of PlayStation news - oneupgaming.co.uk - March 22, 2014

Weekly PlayStation Roundup.

What’s up guys, each Saturday ill be here to give you my weekly roundup of all things PlayStation, including trophy news and the big games coming to the PlayStation family.

The talk this week around the world has been about the announcement of Project Morpheus. Sony’s take on the VR headsets, which are becoming increasingly popular thanks to the Oculus Rift.

The Morpheus look to keep with Sony’s futuristic designs, and has sliders to adjust to the users head size and if they where glasses, good news for me as the Oculus was very uncomfortable when I used it.

Sony are focusing on six points to make the Morpheus a success, sight, sound, tracking, control, ease of use and content. The kit currently features, 1080p, 90-degree field of view and 3D surround sound, while Sony are looking to expand on this to make it completely immersive.
The headset itself, has six LED lights, four on the front and two on the back for full 360 degree head tracking that speaks with the PlayStation 4 camera, as players will know the same LED lights are in the Dualshock 4 and they were very well with the camera even at distance.

Sony has already drummed that a lot of developers are on board to support the Morpheus, including the likes of Epic Games, Crytek and Square Enix, with engine developers Unity, Havok and others listed as partners in the PlayStation VR endeavor.

Rumors of the virtual reality headset have been in circulation since last year, but now we finally have the official announcement and a prototype to look in awe at. Yoshida explained at the panel that Sony chose GDC to unveil it so developers could get their hands on it; a good way of selling the headset to those who are skeptical on VR is to show them a working model.

No final details or pricing were available on the finished product though I expect we will hear more at Sony’s E3 press conference in June.

Next this week, we had a plethora of games finally release on the PlayStation eco system, which looks to be the start of Sony dominating the year of games.

First off the release of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, while this has been getting a lot of criticism over the weeks leading up to launch, I decided I wanted to see where Kojima was taking the series, while I can say that yes the main mission is short, my first run of it clocking in at just 90 minutes, it is by no way a short game, once the main mission is done you are given different reward to tackle the mission with as well as 11 different side missions, each taking 45+ minutes to complete.

I’m very happy with Ground Zeroes, and although casual players of the series may not appreciate the exclusive content it’s a nod to those who have stuck with the series over the years.

Next up we saw the release of Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster on PlayStation 3 and Vita, a 13 year old game has never looked better, the character models have been reworked and the soundtrack has been completely been remastered to fit a more modern market. While they say there a host of new extras in the games, players in Europe can only experience these on Final Fantasy X-2, as with the original we had the international extras when the game launched in 2001, while this is no where near a bad thing, It makes me think about the latter of the two games a bit more where I should be focusing on what is in front of me.

Final Fantasy X, is one of my all time favorite games and delving back into Spira has been amazing, the games look stunning on both PS3 and Vita, although I’ve been leaning more toward the Vita version as I can take it anywhere with me and leave the main TV free for my PS4 games.

Lastly this week the highly anticipated PS4 exclusive inFamous: Second Son launched, and it exploded onto the scene just a Delsin would have liked.

The story this time revolved around Delsin Rowe, a conduit that can absorb abilities, receives the power or Smoke and Ash, allowing him to explode create havoc just be an all round anarchist. Over the course of the game other powers are introduced with a maximum of four being available but for the purposes of not spoiling them I wont talk about the two that the developers has not shown off. The power of smoke lets Delsin being a wrecking ball, creating carnage and not really thinking about the morality of what he is doing, where as the power of Neon allows Delsin to more precise, allowing for the Kharmic choice to be put into affect.

While I haven’t yet completed inFamous, from what I have done it is worth of every good word people are talking about it, the game is much more smooth, the new graphic engine looks stunning on the PS4 and the use of the touch pad is something that a first didn’t think was a good idea but, turns out it is just as important as the X button we have had for years.

Look out for my review of inFamous: Second Son, coming later this week.

And that’s the weekly round up for PlayStation this week, join me again next week where we may all be in flying cars and in our own virtual reality worlds, well if Sony carry on the way they are.

We already know that MLB will be the only baseball series that will be released this year, and is also exclusive to the Sony ecosystem, so now players are left wondering if we will get what is looking like the best looking game on the PS4.
MLB 14: The Show, runs in 1080p and 60fps and includes 1000 different crowd models, each featuring unto 10,000 polygons, to the tech savy player thats kind of a big. In addition, every stadium has more than 1 million polygons, this game boasts some seriously impressive visuals.
It’s worth noting that the PS3 and PS Vita versions are launching on April 1, which is after the Major League Baseball opening so how will that affect the games performance, and now with this announcement PS4 owners know just how much longer they need to wait to enjoy that awesome beard visuals the developer has loved showing off.

Just look at the detail in that beard, you know he means business.
Heres a rundown of the most notable features in MLB 14: The Show.

With these new features MLB is shaping up to not only be the best looking sports game but also the smartest, though the worry of still not seeing much of the game and only being a few months from launch may come to mind.

Weekly Roundup of PlayStation news - oneupgaming.co.uk - March 8, 2014

Weekly PlayStation Roundup.

What’s up guys, each Saturday ill be here to give you my weekly roundup of all things PlayStation, including trophy news and the big games coming to the PlayStation family.

This week has been filled with a plethora of different announcements, big news some would say, the week opened with some good news for PlayStation gamers with the announcement of Fez coming to the PlayStation family.

Finally after years of waiting the acclaimed platform adventure will hit PS3, PS4 and PS Vita on March 26, this is the best looking version of Fez, running at 1080p and 60 fps, now a lot of players may think that the up scaling of the resolution wouldn’t make much difference but truth is the blocks and levels look much crisper and make the world more immersive.

More good new on Fez as well as having the amazing new features and the improvement on the resolution, it also will be cross save compatible so players will be able to get their fix of Fez wherever they are.

Next onto probably the biggest news of this year so far, Rocksteady have finally announced its finale to the Arkham trilogy. Arkham Knight takes place after the events of Arkham City, and is said to be the explosive end to the series that players should look forward to.

With an impressive roster of villains including Two Face, Penguin and Harley Quinn, it looks as if Rocksteady want to send the series out on a bang, not only that but for the first time in the series players have finally will be given the keys to the Batmobile to roam the city which is believed to be three times as big as Arkham City.

Make sure you pre order now to get the exclusive Harley Quinn missions and play as the psychotic nurse in the challenge maps, maybe we will see a cameo from MR J, only time will tell when the game releases later this year, keep and eye out at E3 for this one.

Carrying on with the big news of this week, we finally have a release date for Watch Dogs. Unveiled with a shiny new trailer, Watch Dogs will be released 27 May, and with that the hype for the game is back on.

In this new trailer, we see some of Aiden’s backstory as well as what seems to be the villain of the game, also confirmed for the game is an 8 player online free roam, no more have been said about this just yet but having something the plays like GTA but with hacking sounds like a lot of fun.

Finally this week is only a small piece which I picked up on while watching the inFamous: Second Son livestream, during the Q&A with Nate Fox, a question was asked about what his favorite power is, while they have been talking a lot of Smoke and Neon, Nate confirmed that there is more than two powers in the game that have yet to be shown off to the public, this is hugely clever of Suckerpunch as players will have the chance to try everything first hand when the game launches on March 21.

And that’s this week in news from Playstation, come back next week where hopefully we will have more details from Tales from the Borderlands and Driveclub straight from SXSW.

Dragon Age: Inquisition New Trailer - playstation4.co.uk - March 6, 2014

Dragon Age: Inquisition New Trailer

Dragon Age: Inquisition New Trailer

In todays blog update, Cameron Lee, producer of Dragon Age: Inquisition gave some interesting details about the environments we’ll see in the upcoming Bioware RPG, which is running on the Frostbite 3 engine.
“Our new “Discover the Dragon Age” video highlights only some of the locations you can choose to visit during your adventure. Each area in the video has its own realistic ecosystem with predators, prey, factions, and opportunities to expand your Inquisition.
The world’s population is based on an emergent system that adjusts what you’ll encounter based on how your actions tip the balance in the area. You’ll see towns attacked by bandits, deer fleeing from wolves, giant’s feeding on bears, and countless other scenarios.
The artists, designers, programmers, animators, audio and VFX specialists and many others are the most talented I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. They are the people bringing the world of Dragon Age to life for you to discover. They’ve built incredible graphics systems like weather that creates naturally-formed puddles, spider webs that blow in the wind, and huge amounts of various materials that look more realistic than anything we’ve ever created in a BioWare game!”
When last we saw this game, it was a small snippet of the combat, mixed with these new environments it looks as if Bioware took on board to criticism of DA2, hopefully the hard work will pay off. Dragon Age: Inquisition launches later this year.

Even more news to solidify the fact that today is the day, a new trailer has been leaked onto the Xbox 360 dashboard, the video shows off what seems to be the games villain as well as a bit of backstory on how Aiden is so good with hacking.
Original Story
Already this week we have seen a handful of release dates, but today is another big one, it seems the Watch Dogs Release Date has been leaked.
Originally an update from the PS Blog “Find out the release date in this new trailer” and with Ubisoft giving a press update at 5pm, 6th March it was giving players hope that we would finally see a release to Watch Dogs.
Ubisoft_facebook
Then  a look at this morning Ubisoft  updated Facebook stating “Big news tonight – be ready at 18:00 CET”
Now thats 5PM UK tonight, now Ubisoft always do press updates like these but rarely tease in such a way, and with hints about a release date circulating the last few days the hype seems to be back on for it to be true, cautious minds though it could all be for nothing.

Weekly Roundup of PlayStation news - oneupgaming.co.uk - March 1, 2014

Weekly Roundup of PlayStation News

What’s up guys, each Saturday ill be here to give you my weekly roundup of all things PlayStation, including trophy news and the big games coming to the PlayStation family.

This week I’ve not been playing much at all due to being stuck down doing university work, so will change things up this week with a recap on the big PlayStation news.

The big new of this week was the first exclusive gameplay trailer from Ready at Dawns, The Order 1886, it’s shaping up to be the huge game for the PS4 and everything about it looks stunning, Ru Weerasuriya had some things to say about what players can expect from the game when it launches at the end of the year.

“For melee, we’re leveraging some of the things we’ve learned in the past, even from the platformer days. We want to supplement ranged combat with something that players don’t expect. You’ll see more melee modes that will give you some complex options,”
In terms of house how they are using the new technology of the Dualshock 4, Ru also had this to say.

“We’ve worked with the controller to test all the different things we could do with it,” says Ru. “The issue is that the more complex and involved controller inputs get, the more it removes you from the immersive core experience. We don’t want to use it too much; we’re only using it for actions that feel natural. Tapping out Morse code just worked so well.”

The Order: 1886 is going to be huge for PlayStation, and the work that’s being put into it is really paying off as most fans are hyped for it. Look out for more info on the game in the coming months leading up to launch.
